Abode's Social Media Identity Crisis Explained

You may have noticed that on Facebook we are called New to You, but on Instagram and in-store we are Abode Furnishings & Design. This explanation is long overdue.

Long story short, during the buying process, my brilliant friend Kait and I were talking about whether or not I should keep the name New to You. The New to You Facebook page had almost 10,000 likes at the time, and the idea of starting a new Facebook page didn’t seem smart.

Kait (being the amazing marketing human that she is) says, “it’s really easy to just change your name on Facebook.”

Perfect, let’s keep the page, and change the name to Abode,I said.

I settled on Abode Furnishings & Design. In hindsight had I known the number of people who would mistake Abode for Adobe, I maybe would have gone with Dwell instead. HA!

So we are a week or two from opening and I go to change the name on Facebook and I immediately get denied. In their denial blurb, it says that it would be confusing for my audience. That it would be like having a page named I love New York and then all of a sudden changing it to I love San Francisco.

Of course, I challenge it. I let Facebook know that I’m a brick and mortar store who literally just re-branded. Crickets. I challenge it again. And again. And again.

To this day, I still try and change it hoping that I’ll get lucky. I even tried Abode Recently New to You. No luck. So if you have ever wondered why on earth the names aren’t the same, this is why. For the record, it’s way more confusing this way. Thanks, Facebook!

In Kait’s defense, they had just changed things on Facebook making everything way more challenging. She really is brilliant and amazing. That wasn’t sarcasm. She will also more than likely read this. HAHA! Hi Kait!

If you aren’t following us on both platforms you should! I use both platforms to feature different areas of the store. And pssst…sometimes I share daily discounts and do story sales on Instagram!

See you soon at Abode!

XO, Cort
